Souchong Black Tea, known in Chinese as 小种红茶, is one of the world’s oldest black tea varieties, originating from the misty Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, China . The name “Souchong” refers to the small-leaf tea variety used in its production, with the most renowned expression being Lapsang Souchong (正山小种) from the Tongmu Pass area within the Wuyi Mountain National Nature Reserve .

Legend has it that Souchong was created by accident around 1568 during the Ming Dynasty when a passing army occupied a tea factory, forcing tea farmers to flee and leave harvested leaves to over-ferment . To salvage the leaves, the farmers dried them over pinewood fires, inadvertently creating a uniquely smoky tea that would captivate the Western world .

Souchong production involves a distinctive traditional process: withering, rolling, oxidation, and a signature step of drying or smoking over pinewood fires, which imparts its characteristic smoky aroma . Some varieties also undergo a unique “panning” process called “Guohong” that enhances their sweetness and complexity .

 II. Detailed Key Selling Points

1. Genuine Whole Leaves, Reject Tea Dust & Additives

All tea leaves are sourced from ecological tea plantations in mountainous areas. Each bag is filled with intact whole leaves instead of tea dust or fragments; the leaves are manually sorted and graded to preserve their natural shape and abundant intrinsic nutrients. The tea soup is clear and bright, with a natural fragrance from the tea leaves themselves. It tastes sweet and mellow with layered flavors, and remains non-astringent even with prolonged brewing.

2. Corn Fiber Tea Bag, No Compromise on Health & Environmental Protection

Abandoning traditional artificial chemical materials such as nylon (PA) and polyester (PET), we use PLA corn fiber derived from corn starch fermentation:

– High temperature resistant (≥100℃), no peculiar smell, no plasticizer and no microplastic release when brewed hot;

– Biodegradable, friendly to the environment after use;

– Pyramid three-dimensional space allows whole leaves to fully expand and release the complete flavor.

Compared with nylon tea bags which may cause stuffy taste and carry the risk of chemical residue, corn fiber tea bags are a double commitment to your health and the earth.

 III. Brewing Guide

  1. Hot Brewing (Recommended): Put 1 tea bag into a cup, pour 200ml of 95℃ hot water, let it steep for 3 minutes, then take out the tea bag and enjoy. It can be rebrewed 2-3 times.
  2. Cold Brewing: Put the tea bag into cold/ice water, refrigerate for more than 2 hours (no more than 7 hours), then take out the tea bag for a refreshing summer treat with no burden.
  3. Creative Brewing: Mix with milk to make milk tea, or add lemon slices and sweet osmanthus for a richer flavor.
